How do you measure your bra size at home?
The same way a fitter starts in the fitting room: with two careful tape measurements taken standing straight, breathing normally, in an unpadded bra or none. The tape should be snug but never digging, and level all the way around — a tape that rides up in back is the single most common reason home measurements miss. Done carefully, both measurements take about 2 minutes end to end.
1 · Underbust
Wrap the tape around your ribcage directly under your bust, snug against the skin. This number anchors your band — the part of the suit that does the holding.
2 · Bust
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, level and relaxed — not pulled tight. The difference between your two numbers becomes your cup letter.
What do the band number and cup letter actually mean?
The band number is your suit’s foundation — the firm anchor around the ribcage that carries most of the weight. The cup letter is volume relative to that band, which is why a letter alone says so little: a G on a 30 band is a smaller cup than a G on a 38. Band and cup only mean something together, and that pair is exactly what the calculator returns.
The band does most of the carrying, too — about 80% of a bra’s support comes from it, which is why the method starts under the bust.
What happens after you get your number?
